График, отображающий зависимость между величиной предложения денег и уровнем процентной ставки: В некоторых экономических теориях предложение денег изображается прямой вертикальной линией. Это означает, что предложение денег является экзогенно фиксированной величиной, т.е. устанавливается извне, независимо от спроса на деньги, например, государственными органами ( государство выпускает банкноты и монеты, которые являются компонентом «узких» денег М0). Однако существенная часть «широких» денег (М3) является эндогенной величиной. Например, банковские депозиты формируются внутри банковской системы и очень чувствительны к изменению процентной ставки: чем выше процентная ставка (доход на ссудный капитал), тем больше предложение денег. Согласно кейнсианской теории между денежным предложением и совокупным спросом существует косвенная связь (через процентную ставку). Рассмотрим графики. Увеличение денежного предложения с М до М1 (график (а)) вызывает снижение процентной ставки с r до r1, что в свою очередь приводит к росту плановых инвестиций с I до I1 (график (б)). Увеличение объема инвестиций влечет за собой рост совокупного спроса и, через эффект мультипликатора, рост национального дохода с Y до Y1 (график (в)). Можно также показать, что снижение процентной ставки приводит к росту расходов на потребление, т.к. более низкая стоимость кредита стимулирует покупку товаров в кредит с рассрочкой платежа. См. Согласно монетаристской теории, существует прямая зависимость между денежным предложением и уровнем совокупного спроса. Увеличение денежного предложения стимулирует спрос на конечные товары и услуги, а не только на инвестиционные товары.
